What I worked on today - Almost Completed

I'm calling this painting "Roaming the Palo Duro" and its almost completed after working on it off and on for over a year now. I have some touch ups and will sign my name probably with a fresh start tomorrow. My goal is to finish all of the paintings I've started by the end of march and this painting (40" x 60" canvas) is the biggest one I've ever painted.
I painted the canyon from a photo I took a couple of years ago while camping at Palo Duro Canyon State Park. The location is about a mile (and to the right side of the road) prior to entering the park. I was captivated by the view and knew instantly that I was going to paint it. Later on when I began painting the scene is when I decided to add the horse. Aside from a model horse which I have in my studio, I had no further reference for a black horse which by the way ensured that it was going to be very difficult to paint. The challenging part was making the horse represent black and yet capturing all of the reflected and ambient light. You be the judge whether I achieved a believable black horse.
Will be posting this on my website soon.
Regards!
