I will call it, "Monarch above the Timbers".
Greetings, art enthusiasts!
Its been a while since I last posted but I have been preoccupied with painting. I am thrilled to share with you an update on my latest project, a painting that has not only stretched the boundaries of my canvas but also my artistic vision. Titled "Monarch Above the Timbers," this piece truly marks a significant milestone in my journey as an artist.
"Monarch Above the Timbers" is an expansive work, measuring 30 x 78 inches, making it the largest oil painting I've ever undertaken. Indeed, the stretcher frame is completely custom and very sturdy. The surface is linen canvas. The title attempts to suggest the majestic imagery of a great American Bison poised above the mountainous timbers, symbolizing freedom, restoration and beauty amidst nature’s vastness. It is my hope that the painting offers the viewer a portal into the wilderness, becoming a part of the painting as if they were standing on a nearby rocky precipice across from the Bison while also looking out over the mountains. While there is a certain regard for realism that I attempted to embed into the painting, there is no photograph in existence that contains all of these elements and the arrangement therein. I don't want to copy nature, like most artists I want the viewer to fantasize, have a unique experience and to linger there. As for myself, I find that the great thing about being able to paint is that I get to put the fantastic and exceptional onto canvas using ordinary or not so ordinary subjects. And that is what I attempted in this painting.
The process of bringing this vision to life has been both challenging and exhilarating. Currently, I am racing to complete this masterpiece by the end of the week. Once finished, my plan is to upload the painting onto my website, ready for those who appreciate the nuanced dance of color and form to own a piece of this journey.
In preparation for its showcase, I've scheduled a meeting with a skilled craftsman and friend to discuss the creation of a suitable frame. This frame isn't just about encasing the art; it's about enhancing the narrative, providing a border that complements the vibrancy and depth of the painting. We'll explore materials and designs that not only support but elevate the artwork, ensuring that "Monarch Above the Timbers" is presented in the manner it deserves.
