Childhood Revisited is probably the most amusing thing I've ever painted. With my grandson Henry in mind, I wanted to paint something for him that would always remind him of me just as I was reminded of him (and smiled) while painting it. I set up the still life but took a photo of it since at the time I couldn't paint from where it was set up. So, it is a still life that I painted from a photo. When I was a child, things were much more simple than they are today and so it was with toys as well. This is the stuff that made my childhood memorable. The blocks and the plastic army men were always around the house and we played with them all the time. In the painting, a dinosaur has come into view from the darkness but the little band of army men were expecting him and set themselves up around the little red truck and the blocks. Now that the stage has been set, only imagination can complete the outcome.

I hope you enjoy the theme as much as I did painting it.

Best Regards!
